Walking in the rain

I thought that dreams of you would keep me dry
As we walked down the towpath in the rain.
The ducks ignored our progress with disdain
While in my mind you taught me how to fly
I tried to speak but found that I was shy
As droplets from the bridge, like xylophones
Dripped out a tune in gently ringing tones
While in my mind you taught me how to fly
A narrow boat that slowly drifted by
Brought dreams of sailing off into the blue
No need of other passengers or crew …
While in my mind you taught me how to fly
I thought that dreams of you would keep me dry
While in my mind you taught me how to fly
Author notes
Oh look, a romantic poem without the Moon!
