Weeping

A mermaid out of water cannot swim to show her joy
A bird with broken wings will never fly
A child may throw a tantrum if she cannot find her toy
But I just weep when you aren’t in my eye
A rose that shows no flowers, just a bush that’s filled with thorns
A glass without some brandy, such a waste
The world can feel the sadness when the grieving widow mourns
But I just weep when I find you’re misplaced
An evening with no sunset when the clouds obscure it’s rise
A rainbow when no child can see the show
A party for a Birthday when it’s not a nice surprise
But I just weep if you’re not there to glow
The sky at night is moonless and the stars refuse to shine
A bird flies in the door and can’t get free
One cake left on the table and know it isn’t mine
But I just weep that you aren’t here to see
Next day a golden sunrise with a chorus from the birds
Shows a garden blessed with every summer hue
I sit to write a poem and I know the perfect words
And I weep with joy, in front of me, is you!
