We’re Only Awake in Our Dreams

We’re only awake in our dreams
Where life can touch all its extremes
The woes of today drift a lifetime away
We’re only awake in our dreams
Reality lies all the time
The trials of life are a crime
The pains of the night can be far out of sight
In daydreams the World seems sublime
When nightmares awake you in screams
Your sanity frays at the seams
Take an afternoon snooze, you have nothing to lose
We’re only awake in our dreams
Ignoring your dreams is absurd
Reality’s not the last word!

Adapted from a poem I posted as a comment on another poet’s work.
A “Limerick Sonnet” why not try writing one?
