What Can It Be?

True poetry for me is all the voices
Inside my head agreeing for a change,
When each of them is done with making choices
There’s nothing left for me to rearrange.

It’s poetry when I cannot forget it,
It’s poetry when suddenly I see,
When I can read and cry, but not regret it;
When words cease being words, but dance for me.

I know that others see a different picture,
A poem is a painting in their mind.
A time bomb that explodes dogmatic stricture.
Or just a thought that leaves a truth behind

Inside my heart all poetry must be
The music that can set my dreaming free.

Author notes
It’s really not based on any one of the quotes, more my response to all of
them. I think poetry is something different for all of us
