What can you do when friends are torn apart
When illness takes all happiness away
How can you help to mend a tortured heart
That wonders if today’s the final day
What can you say when friends must face despair
When life decrees they shall not live in peace
How can you tell a friend that you are there
The feelings that you hold can never cease.
I know you’d be the friend that I would need
If ever I must face that awful door
But would I stand against the fate decreed
Or fade into my shadow on the floor
I don’t believe that life should treat us fair
But there are times the cross is hard to bear
