What is the Point?

What is the Point?

We may not even get a cricket season
And football may be played behind closed doors.
I can’t remember when I’ve had no reason
To hurry home and check on all the scores.

Now is the time for growing expectation –
To check the dates when I’ll be up in town,
To fall asleep or bounce in delectation,
While English sun forgets to turn me brown.

But new diseases come, let’s hope they go,
And losing cricket’s just one casualty.
That some will die must be the greatest blow
But watching cricket means a lot to me.

No sport, no hugs and not one stolen kiss;
What is the point of Spring in years like this!

Covid-19 has a lot to answer for, no loo-roll to buy, queues in shops that have
nothing to buy and nothing to fall asleep to, they’ll probably even have to
postpone the Olympics.
