When You’re With Me

Whenever you are with me it’s a lovely Summer day,
With roses smiling sweetly everywhere.
But when I am without you happy sunshine drains away
It’s winter and each bush is cold and bare.
The thought of you is springtime my emotions are renewed
Our parting is the Autumn all of nature stands subdued.
Whenever you are with me there is birdsong on the breeze
A blackbird serenades his loving mate
Without you I hear silence, not a rustle in the trees
To suggest I can avoid a lonely fate.
I dream of you in music, you’re a symphony of sound
I wake, if you aren’t near me, and the lost chord can’t be found.
Whenever you are with me there are bees and butterflies
Without you only wasps and slugs and snails
I think of you and soft white clouds paint pictures in the skies
And planes write “I Love You” with vapour trails
You are chocolate and toffee, you are ice-cream, you are cake
You are everything I dream of, and with you I’m wide awake.
