Where not to Go

You’d be unwise to view Bikini island
As any place to take a holiday.
It’s fairly flat with no relieving high land
Where when it’s hot you’d go to get away;
And Geiger counters make a clicking sound
Reacting to the fallout underground.
The Montebello islands aren’t much better
Although the bombs we used were small and few,
To get there you will need a special letter
To say remaining risks were ones you knew.
For birds and animals the bombs mean peace
The ironies of life will never cease.
This year you cannot travel where you’d like to
So desert island breaks are just for dreams.
I’ll holiday in spots that I can hike to
Where sun kissed sand’s replaced by mountain streams.
And I won’t find my skin’s begun to glow
(Unless from cold in Britain’s summer snow!)

Perhaps when we can travel again I’ll go to Reggane or Muraroa instead.
