{"id":2080,"date":"2023-11-26T20:31:54","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T20:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=2080"},"modified":"2023-11-28T22:53:32","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T22:53:32","slug":"pleasant-land","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/p-poems\/pleasant-land\/","title":{"rendered":"Pleasant Land"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Pleasant Land<br \/>\nby cricketjeff on November 20, 2007.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved<br \/>\nSitting on a hill I see<br \/>\nEngland stretched in front of me.<br \/>\nFields of yellow, brown and green<br \/>\nA country pleasant and serene<\/p>\n<p>A winding river cutting through<br \/>\nFields of every natural hue.<br \/>\nA village nestles in the folds<br \/>\nBetween the greens and browns and golds<\/p>\n<p>A splash of red &#8211; the old school roof.<br \/>\nA grey stone church that stands aloof.<br \/>\nOutside the pub an ancient sign<br \/>\nA partridge with a glass of wine.<\/p>\n<p>The village stores with all its wares<br \/>\nAttracted buyers, glancing stares.<br \/>\nVillage bobby on his beat<br \/>\nPounding streets with size 12 feet.<\/p>\n<p>The post van winding down the Lane<br \/>\nIt looks like he is late again.<br \/>\nHis van so red with flash of gold<br \/>\nStands out as a statement bold.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s driving past the farmyard there<br \/>\nPast the riding school with care.<br \/>\nCows want milking, by the gate<br \/>\nThe farmer though has made them wait.<\/p>\n<p>Winding lane through wooded copse<br \/>\nBarrier down, it never stops<br \/>\nFlashing past the London train<br \/>\nTaking workers home again.<\/p>\n<p>Home is calling to me too<br \/>\nTime for drinking tea with you<br \/>\nEngland&#8217;s glories to behold<br \/>\nAmong the green and brown and gold.<br \/>\n Author notes<br \/>\nA collaboration between Sue Cardwell and I on a wet evening in November 2007.<br \/>\nThanks Sue<br \/>\nYou_can_see_it_on_her_page_centre_aligned_with_a_pretty_picture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pleasant Land by cricketjeff on November 20, 2007.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved Sitting on a hill I see England stretched in front of me.
