{"id":2244,"date":"2023-11-26T20:31:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T20:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=2244"},"modified":"2023-11-28T22:00:01","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T22:00:01","slug":"in-the-pool-where-mermaids-like-to-play-and-sing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/i-poems\/in-the-pool-where-mermaids-like-to-play-and-sing\/","title":{"rendered":"In the pool where mermaids like to play and sing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> In the pool where mermaids like to play and sing<br \/>\nby cricketjeff on January 7, 2008.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved<br \/>\nIn between the races, where the tide must ebb and flow;<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s a calmer stretch of water where few normal people go.<br \/>\nTo reach its quiet magic you must brave a mighty rip<br \/>\nAnd be prepared to fight, when currents hold you in their grip.<\/p>\n<p>The rocks upon the South-side can chew any boat in two<br \/>\nAnd the sandbank to the seaward has been known to strand a few<br \/>\nBut for those who struggle onward, there&#8217;s a certain treat in wait.<br \/>\nTo be one of those to see it, long ago my happy fate.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the pool where mermaids like to play and sing<\/p>\n<p>I came upon this idyll while escaping from a storm.<br \/>\nSeeking only landfall and a shelter dry and warm.<br \/>\nStranded on the sandbanks, other sailors dashed away.<br \/>\nI was washed onto an islet, where I saw a mermaid play.<\/p>\n<p>Her hair was long and flowing, like a wave down to her waist<br \/>\nEverything about her had been formed in perfect taste.<br \/>\nHer face that of an angel, soft yet somehow firm each breast<br \/>\nHer skin shone precious amber, felt her fire within my chest<\/p>\n<p>In the pool where mermaids like to play and sing<\/p>\n<p>Her voice was soft as peaches, that have ripened in the sun.<br \/>\nWith a tone of love and passion and a rising note of fun.<br \/>\nHer buttocks smooth and pert I saw, she dived away from me.<br \/>\nJust the laughter in her singing seemed to calm the raging sea.<\/p>\n<p>Strength was fading from me and I hardly was aware,<br \/>\nThat her arms were now around me and she cradled me with care.<br \/>\nMy lips now tasted heaven as she kissed away the salt.<br \/>\nShe smile when I then kissed her back, no signal there to halt.<\/p>\n<p>In the pool where mermaids like to play and sing<\/p>\n<p>Though from thighs down she&#8217;d a fish tail; she was woman up above<br \/>\nAnd she showed me she was mistress in the steamy arts of love.<br \/>\nThen she turned her back and vanished, underwater without splash<br \/>\nAnd the storm returned to taunt me and the waves began to crash.<\/p>\n<p>Next morning I was lying, almost dead on golden sand<br \/>\nNo sailor more delighted to be waking on the land.<br \/>\nAnd I&#8217;d swear that I&#8217;d been dreaming but when twenty years had flown<br \/>\nI met a fisherman with amber skin, and a face just like my own.<\/p>\n<p>Near the pool where mermaids like to play and sing.<\/p>\n<p> Author notes<br \/>\nRhythm needs a little work I think.
