\nThe man would do most anything,
\nFor victory!<\/p>\n
Villenueve had a larger fleet
\nBut Nelson had the better crews.
\nHe won more victories complete,
\nAnd spread the News!<\/p>\n
Napoleon was at the Nile
\nWhen Nelson stopped his winning spree.
\nHe managed to escape in style
\nNo victory.<\/p>\n
Trafalgar was the Spanish cape
\nWhere Final reckoning was made.
\nSight of Gibraltar’s famous ape
\nThe plans were laid.<\/p>\n
Collingwood attacked the rear.
\nNelson would take on the van.
\nNeither showed the slightest fear
\nOf any man.<\/p>\n
When the victory was sure,
\nUpon that late October day.
\nAt last his life could not endure,
\nWas shot away.<\/p>\n
A single bullet ribbed his spine
\nAnd so they bore him down below.
\nAboard the flagship of the line
\nHe made a show.<\/p>\n
“Kiss me Hardy” was what he said
\nAnd then in pain he breathed his last.
\nThe Battle won but Nelson’s flag
\nHad left the mast.<\/p>\n
Now ev’ry English schoolboy knows,
\nThat Nelson was at home at sea
\nAnd he it was who stopped the French,
\nOn Victory!<\/p>\n
