\nI teased and hurt a friend I am a fool
\nI never mean to hurt a single soul
\nApologies are hard and I don’t know
\nIf I can say enough to put things right
\nI’ve lost a perfect friend in just one line
\nThere is no way a thing can be unsaid<\/p>\n
I wish I had not said the thing I said
\nFor now I look and feel a perfect fool
\nA silly joke that occupied one line
\nHas hurt a friend and hit out at her soul
\nI want to find a way to put things right
\nIs there such a trick, I do not know<\/p>\n
Who is the firmest friend that you can know?
\nI’m sorry for the foolish thing I’ve said
\nThere isn’t any way to put it right
\nAnd so I will just look a stupid fool
\nSo sorry that I hurt her to the soul
\nBy half a dozen words in just one line<\/p>\n
I feel I am a fish trapped by a line
\nI took a bite at bait I did not know
\nI’m soon to be a dish like Dover sole
\nAll for something silly that was said
\nDoes anybody know a bigger fool
\nOr know a way that I can set things right<\/p>\n
I really need to set my error right
\nTo try to take back just one teasing line
\nI’d still appear as quite the biggest fool
\nOf all the fools that I have come to know
\nBecause of silly things that I have said
\nI feel that I’ve been trampled ‘neath a sole<\/p>\n
I wonder how to fix a wounded soul
\nIs there a way that I could put things right
\nTo show there’s no intent in what I said
\nThat it was just a very silly line
\nI wonder if she’ll always tell me “No”
\nI will not talk to such a stupid fool<\/p>\n
I hurt her soul with words in just one line
\nIt was not right that is one thing I know
\nThe words I said make me a stupid fool
