\nWhen I wonder why I’m writing words of whispered warmth and love
\nTo a world that keeps on turning under diamond skies above
\nI just turn to every poet that I read and keep inside
\nAnd I see that all their efforts simply beg to be replied<\/p>\n
So I pick a pointed pencil and I push it ‘cross the page
\nAnd I hope to put my feelings at the centre of the stage
\nFor the poets that I’m reading always fill my heart with joy
\nAnd I feel that in their presence I’m a silly little boy<\/p>\n
I must practice all my writing until every word is right
\nAnd the poems I’m producing set the hearts of friends alight
\nFor I have to pay for pleasures in the only way I know
\nWith a wagonload of wordplay like an avalanche of snow<\/p>\n
Now it seems that I’m addicted to the music of the verse
\nAll the time that I’m not working is the time that I rehearse
\nOne day I’ll be a poet who has things that he must say
