Happily ever after

This feisty fairy found the magic mirror all alone
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 And summoned up the spell to meet a mate.
\nBefore the fairy found it it was working on its own
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 And settling the great affairs of state.
\nThe mirror isn’t happy, so it plays a little joke,
\nThe fairy’s hopes of happiness may disappear in smoke.<\/p>\n
From foaming fogs that seem to sing an image soon appears,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 A mediaeval castle on a hill.
\nSo dark and black and overgrown, forgotten through the years
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 And deep within its curtain all is still.
\n“You’ll find your doom, in tower room, atop that brooding pile.”
\nThe nymph now thinks she’s struck it rich and flies off with a smile.<\/p>\n
Two hundred years ago a witch was not the least amused
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 When she was told to pack her broom and fly.
\nShe left in haste but was not chased, the courtiers were bemused
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 By dreadful spells that echoed from on high.
\n“You’ll have to sleep and rot away until the wedding day”
\nThe foolish folk will have to stay while years are whiled away.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 The fairy flies to find the room
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Where magic says she’ll meet her doom.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 The mirror whispers to each cat
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 “I wonder what she’ll make of that”
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 The nasty glass is filled with glee,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 At all the sadness he will see.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 Yet things are seldom as they seem,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 When fairy folk begin to dream.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 I know that you will understand –
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 There’s been a change in fairyland.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 Our fairy is a modern girl
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The mirror’s scheme is in a whirl.<\/p>\n
Asleep in bed atop the tower, with dreams of whips and boots
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 And not to wake without a loving kiss.
\nThe fairy flies to meet her fate, and follow her pursuits,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 She’s such a bold and sexy little miss.
\nPrepared to kiss, and more besides, to get the love she’s craved.
\nI wonder if she thinks about the others she’ll have saved.<\/p>\n
She finds the room, the sleeping royal, it’s all that she has dreamed,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 A perfect end to quite a tiring flight.
\nThe mirror sees and worries that it’s not as he has schemed
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 Instead of wrong it’s turning out quite right,
\nThe princess wakes to fairy kiss and finds a perfect day,
\nWho would have guessed the fairy and the princess are both gay!<\/p>\n
In modern times two girls can wed and so they tie the knot;
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 The castle wakes to gaiety and joy.
\nThe ancient days have passed away, their bigotry forgot.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 It’s girl on girl and also boy on boy.
\nSo everyone is happy with the way the story ends,
\nI wish that life was just the same as all my let’s pretends.<\/p>\n
