\nThere’s nothing finer than to rhyme
\nWith perfect meter beating time
\nYou have to let the language play
\nAnd show the world the proper way
\nYou sound profound
\nwith rhyme around
\nSo follow me
\nAnd assonate
\nAnd resonate
\nYour poetry<\/p>\n
It’s so much fun to choose your words
\nAvoiding obvious absurds
\nYou ought to mix in other tricks
\nTo give the reader quite a fix
\nOf poets fun
\nAlong the run
\nAlliterate
\nGive tongues a twist
\nThat will assist
\nIn sounding great<\/p>\n
At last you’re ready to declaim
\nThe spoken word bring you fame
\nYou read aloud your poetry
\nSo all your friends will have to see
\nThat you are smart
\nYou know your art
\nThey ought to bow
\nAnd scrape to you
\nThat’s what they’ll do
\nSo show them how!<\/p>\n
Author notes
\n(i) I wish you to write two or three stanzas with the PATTERN:
\naabbccdeed. This is a very close approximation to Henry’s stanzas. Of course, I
\ndo not require you to copy Henry’s rhymes necessarily but to use this PATTERN
\nfor each stanza.<\/p>\n
(ii) This poem by his very late majesty is a light-hearted one.
\nYou are to write on an activity (or associated ones) that are your “pastance”!<\/p>\n
(iii) The first four lines of each stanza should be eight syllables and the
\nfollowing six lines are to be four syllables.<\/p>\n
(iv) Repetition to give a song-like character: Notice Henry used “pastance”
\ntwice; “company” four times; ‘good’ (& goodly) four times; “vices” twice, etc.
\nNow, I do not wish you to ‘ape’ this but bear the repetition of certain words
\nand syntactical methods
\nin mind.<\/p>\n
