\nThe rivalries of men of state
\nThe pride of petty Kings
\nThe need to prove your nation great
\nThe root of many things
\n“Our Empire always had the right
\nTo rule your grateful Land”
\nThe rush to own the greater might
\nAnd hold the upper hand<\/p>\n
So many millions died for these
\nThe thoughts of little men
\nAnd never mind our urgent pleas
\nThey will occur again<\/p>\n
To rush to War is seldom right
\nAppeasement always wrong
\nThe peaceful sometimes have to fight
\nOr suffer from the strong
\nBut surely there will come a time
\nWhen those who call for wars
\nShould have to answer for their crime
\nNot call for more applause<\/p>\n
A border tiff, a civil strife,
\nAn end to tribal shame
\nAll causes that will end the life
\nOf those who aren’t to blame<\/p>\n
So count to ten and think again
\nYou need to talk not kill
\nThe answer’s not the death of men
\nWe’ve more than had our fill
\nThe War to end all Wars was fought
\nBefore the greater war
\nAll good intentions come to naught
\nWe just kill more and more<\/p>\n
Remember this eleventh hour
\nTo stand and bow your head
\nAnd then do all that’s in your power
\nToo many men are dead<\/p>\n
