\nWe record the sound of every TV station
\nAs it chunders out its wares across the nation
\nIt is something TNS have often found
\nYou can tell a TV programme by the sound<\/p>\n
Every programme that you watch will seem much sweeter
\nIf your habits are recorded on a meter
\nSo the BBC will know what they should do
\nMaking sure there’s nothing you will want to view<\/p>\n
If the tone is bad it could be that the show
\nIsn’t one you want your neighbourhood to know
\nNever mind its there before our watching eyes
\nWe are always careful to anonymise<\/p>\n
Strictly Come Eastenders or the nightly news
\nOr some naked ladies we can’t see the views
\nIt’s the sound of things we have to understand
\nSo the future of the channels can be planned<\/p>\n
There’s a database created everyday
\nOf the habits of each Nation at its play
\nIn the Philippines they’re watching lots of shows
\nAbout the habits of those crazy Eskimos<\/p>\n
In Norway there may be shows about a fish
\nA Turk I know prefers a tasty dish
\nWhile Sri Lanka may have cricket on the Brain
\nIn Australia it’s Neighbours once again<\/p>\n
Honululu likes to watch things after dark
\nWhile in London there were Proms out in the Park
\nAll across the World the meters let us see
\nWhat the rest of you are watching on TV<\/p>\n
With eight hundred channels, time-shifts and the rest
\nThe whole exercise is proving quite a test
\nBut there isn’t any other way to peek
\nAt the way the silent masses spend the week<\/p>\n
If you add to that you get a flashing light
\nThat will wink in red when it calls us at night
\nYou should sign up for a panel right away
\nThat’s the most important thing to do today!<\/p>\n
