The Police Search

\nHe shouted down the stairs that he was out,
\nIf he was out how could he talk to me?
\nAbout his whereabouts there was a doubt,
\nWas he about to change locality?<\/p>\n
I climbed the stairs by two steps at a time
\nAware that he may hide himself somewhere.
\nThis slimy man committed dreadful crime
\nAnd there was reason I should take great care.<\/p>\n
An empty room, not large and quite unkempt.
\nNo criminal we know as “Lightweight Jim” –
\nExempt from laws of physics that pre-empt
\nThe slim from disappearing just like him.<\/p>\n
Surprise surprise he’d vanished from my eyes;
\nUnwise I’d merely brought his lotto prize!<\/p>\n

\nThe challenge is to write a sonnet where the second word or syllable or each
\nline rhymes with the final syllable, but the poem is in other respects a normal
