\nIt just comes down to energy
\nPotentially from gravity
\nKinetic from velocity.<\/p>\n
Old Isaac was the first who dared
\nTo get this concept widely shared
\nWe’ll do this first to get prepared
\nTake half your mass by speed that’s squared<\/p>\n
That was “kinetic” by the way
\nSo now “potential” must make play
\nTake G times what both bodies weigh
\nDivide by separation, ‘Kay?<\/p>\n
Now if the former bests the latter
\nYou can escape from all my chatter
\nBut when the other way around
\nMy friend you’re stuck here on the ground!<\/p>\n

\nThe potential energy is the energy you’d get if you fell all the way to the
\ncentre of gravity of an object, it can be calculated by G(the gravitational
\nconstant) times your weight times the Earth’s weight (if it is you trying to
\nescape Earth) divided by the distance your centre of gravity is from the
\nEarth’s.
\nKinetic energy is half your mass (weight is an expression of mass if gravity
\ndoesn’t change) times your speed squared (I know the formula says velocity but
\nvelocity is speed in a direction and energy has no direction).
\nAnd as with just about everything in science in the end it is all down to
\nenergy, the biggest bang wins!<\/p>\n
