\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Remembering the lot would be
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A far too boring task for me<\/p>\n
Amino acids, as a group
\nAre really quite a motley troupe
\nThe term just means a molecule
\nWhose functionality is dual
\nCarboxyl group and amine too
\nMeans they have many tasks to do<\/p>\n
They join to form in complex chains
\nThe proteins that all life contains
\nOur cells are made from twenty two
\nWhich really seems a lot too few
\nWe have this stuff called RNA
\nWhich shows these bricks the way to lay<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 There’s tyroline and tryptophan
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And histidine and proline too
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Selenocysteine joined the clan
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I can’t recall them all, can you?
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Remembering the lot would be
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A far too boring task for me<\/p>\n
The foods we eat contain the list
\nAnd none of them are safely missed
\nAmino acids on their own
\nAre foods most folk would leave alone
\nBut joined to make a leg of lamb
\nOr flavouring a pound of jam
\nThey make the prospect very sweet
\nOf finding something good to eat<\/p>\n
Some biochemists spend each day
\nAligning them some special way
\nTo find the cure for all our ills
\nWhich they can put in coloured pills
\nOr trying hard to find out why
\nThey join up wrong and make us die
\nAmino acids one by one
\nA most peculiar source of fun<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Pyrrolysine’s now in the list
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Glutamic acid and the rest
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 There’s many more that I have missed
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 So Google them don’t be a pest!
