The evolution revolution

\nEvolution of itself was nothing new
\nEven Saint Augustine knew a thing or two
\nBut the genius of Darwin was to see
\nHow evolution tied the birds to you and me<\/p>\n
He observed that nature’s built on massive waste
\nInstead of on resources nicely placed
\nThe future fate of life makes clever use
\nOf the fact you have to thrive to reproduce<\/p>\n
It was obvious to all (save zealous fools)
\nThat life must always follow certain rules
\nBut the rule that all had missed before his day
\nWas that most of life is always thrown away<\/p>\n
If you haven’t got the time to have a child
\nThen you can’t affect the species in the wild
\nAs a baby may inherit father’s nose
\nOther species do the same you should suppose<\/p>\n
He researched and worked it out for many years
\nBut couldn’t see the way past other’s fears
\nAs he knew the ignorant would never see
\nThe Bible wasn’t written literally<\/p>\n
Gregor Mendel’s work though older was unknown
\nInheritance has rules as he had shown
\nDarwin studied pigeon breeders for the clues
\nOf the tricks that Mother Nature ought to use.<\/p>\n
On his travels he observed some fossil bones
\nAnd he saw how species changed across wide zones
\nHow a finch could change to fill in every niche
\nThat no other birds had had the luck to reach<\/p>\n
Now we see that how it works is DNA
\nAnd that species just reflect the genes at play
\nAll of life is somewhere on the fam’ly tree
