\nI stood and cried the night my granddad died
\nHis wit and wisdom lost forever more
\nI would have died if I could not have cried
\nA night like that is what our tears are for<\/p>\n
His pain was done for him it was not sad
\nHe’d met his goals and felt his life complete
\nHis life was spent in making others glad
\nI’m glad I cried it makes his mem’ry sweet<\/p>\n
I was bereft when my first girlfriend left
\nIt wasn’t love but seemed it at the time
\nThe hurting left because I felt bereft
\nNot marking such a sorrow is a crime<\/p>\n
I loved again and raised a family
\nBut pain of parting made a better life
\nThe hurt I felt is always part of me
\nI know it would be worse to lose my wife<\/p>\n
I cry to see some child die of disease
\nWhen famine strikes although that’s far away
\nA worse disease to not cry when one sees
\nHow others have to face the world today<\/p>\n
I could not face the mirror if I thought
\nThat I could not despair when humankind
\nAllows a child to pay for battles fought
\nSo rich men own whatever’s on their mind<\/p>\n
We cry to show that deep inside we know
\nWe haven’t done the best that we could do
\nBecause we cry we know we have to show
