Painting Perfect Pictures

\nA picture, it is offered, paints one thousand shining words;
\n\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 Can pictures paint a love-song or a sigh?
\nAnd who would paint a nightingale, the drabbest of all birds,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 Its beauty never enters through the eye.
\nThough pictures can be wonderful and exercise the soul
\nIt’s only in great poetry that we can see the whole.<\/p>\n
Vermeer portrayed each woman in a scene that showed her life,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 While Botticelli showed a little more.
\nPicasso made an artwork of a most peculiar wife
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And Playboy shows some ladies I adore.
\nBut Shakespeare wrote his sonnets to his lady of the night
\nAnd every line he penned her showed that poetry is right.<\/p>\n
When Constable saw haywains or a mill beside a brook,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 He froze the moment till the end of time.
\nBut Gray, when elergising, filled the pages of a book,
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 With countryside portrayed in flawless rhyme.
\nFor Turner we have Wordsworth and for Hogarth there is Pope
\nBut there’s no match for Shakespeare there’s no painter who could cope.<\/p>\n
When Kipling wrote his treatise on the way to be a man
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 He showed what pictures only hope to show,
\nThe U.S. founding fathers wrote the nation’s basic plan
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In words that show a painting how to glow.
\nAll the finest works of beauty that can illustrate your dreams
