\nHis nightmares are now memories no more.
\nThe scenes he lived, too terrible to say,
\nA tiny slice of that unholy war;
\nThe last reluctant hero’s slipped away.<\/p>\n
When Harry Patch was sent to Passchendaele,
\nWith friends and neighbours marching by his side,
\nThey knew they were an army doomed to fail;
\nAbout three hundred thousand young men died.<\/p>\n
For eighty years he never told a soul,
\nOf pain and death no man should ever see.
\nReluctantly again he played a roll,
\nA second fight for peace and liberty.<\/p>\n
A man of peace who fought that dreadful war,
\nNow Harry Patch will have to fight no more.<\/p>\n
