{"id":4259,"date":"2023-11-26T20:26:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T20:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=4259"},"modified":"2023-11-28T23:09:52","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T23:09:52","slug":"throughout-the-year","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/t-poems\/throughout-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Throughout the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Throughout the year<br \/>\nby cricketjeff on November 18, 2009.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved<br \/>\nAs Winter wind emerged from Autumn breeze<br \/>\nI found a cure for ice-cold lonely nights.<br \/>\nThe thin sunlight that only seems to tease<br \/>\nWas bright enough to show me your delights.<\/p>\n<p>The silhouettes of trees suggested death<br \/>\nBut I found life and laughter in your eyes.<br \/>\nThe Winter chill that lets you see your breath<br \/>\nMakes clouds of joy from new-found lover&#8217;s sighs.<\/p>\n<p>We sampled love beside a roaring fire<br \/>\nAnd tasted hope in sips of ginger wine.<br \/>\nA fall of snow can&#8217;t blanket out desire<br \/>\nAnd underneath its carpet you were mine.<\/p>\n<p>On cold, dark days the blackbird learns to sing,<br \/>\nWhile Winter frosts soon melt into the Spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>While Winter frosts soon melt into the Spring<br \/>\nA Winter love does not soon fade away.<br \/>\nReturning sun brings life to everything<br \/>\nAnd we were more alive on every day.<\/p>\n<p>The roadside banks soon filled with daffodils<br \/>\nAnd clearings in the woods turned bluebell blue.<br \/>\nThe year grew up presenting me with thrills<br \/>\nSuch pretty scenes that I could show to you.<\/p>\n<p>We skinny-dipped in one still icy stream<br \/>\nAnd held each other close while getting dry.<br \/>\nI found in you the answer to a dream<br \/>\nAnd knew that I would never say goodbye.<\/p>\n<p>As everything in nature&#8217;s having fun,<br \/>\nWarm days of Spring turn hot in Summer sun.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Warm days of Spring turn hot in Summer sun<br \/>\nAnd you and I found heat in other games.<br \/>\nWe walked though life ignoring everyone<br \/>\nAnd only heard each other&#8217;s secret names.<\/p>\n<p>I took you to my dark green mountainsides,<br \/>\nI showed you all the places I had been.<br \/>\nWe found the parks where England&#8217;s beauty hides,<br \/>\nMade love in places only gods have seen.<\/p>\n<p>The best of weather brings the best of love,<br \/>\nThe best of you brought out the best of me.<br \/>\nWhile larks sang songs of love from high above<br \/>\nI spoke to you in gentle poetry.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the year is almost told<br \/>\nWhen Summer&#8217;s greens first turn to Autumn gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>When Summer&#8217;s greens first turn to Autumn gold,<br \/>\nThe trees are graced with something new to say.<br \/>\nBefore the nights have started turning cold<br \/>\nThey give their new found treasure trove away.<\/p>\n<p>When morning mists give way to golden light<br \/>\nAnd fallen leaves start crunching underfoot.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s time to hold your lover very tight<br \/>\nAnd watch the nights start turning black as soot.<\/p>\n<p>With blackberry-and-apple pie to eat<br \/>\nAnd hedgerow fruits to pick as we walk by.<br \/>\nIt isn&#8217;t only you that keeps me sweet<br \/>\nBoth you and they are easy on the eye.<\/p>\n<p>I held you close between the shedding trees<br \/>\nAs Winter wind emerged from Autumn breeze.<\/p>\n<p> Author notes<br \/>\nA &#8220;crown&#8221; of Shakespearean sonnets. A crown can be any number of sonnets with<br \/>\nlinked themes which are also linked by reusing the final line (or lines) of one<br \/>\nto start the next.
