\nThough Gilbert declared it in style,
\n(To music designed to beguile)
\nI have never believed that it’s true,
\nThat boasting’s the best thing for you.
\nSo I remain quiet and shy,
\nA modest and diffident guy.
\nAlthough I’m as sharp as a knife,
\nI’ll miss out on worry and strife,
\nBy modestly standing aside,
\nFor the fools of the world and their pride.<\/p>\n
I know that I’m smarter than most
\nBut no-one can say I would boast.
\nI won’t stick my nose in the air
\nWhen those lesser mortals are there,
\nI’ll smile at their pompous debate
\nAnd not let them know I am great.
\nOf course if they’re wise they will see
\nThat they aren’t the equal of me
\nBut I won’t be the fellow to say
\nThey need to get out of my way.<\/p>\n
I’m silent on all of my skills,
\nAnd I don’t possess many ills,
\nThere’s only one fault I’ll admit
\nYou’ve guessed that my modesty’s it.
\nThe world needs such people as me
\nAnd since you are smart you’ll agree.
\nYou see I’m the greatest around,
\nMy insights are always profound
\nBut riches and praise I eschew –
