The life of a lovesong

\nWhen the poem’s just a jotting,
\nOn the notepad by the phone,
\nThere are dreams in need of spotting
\nAs you’re dozing on your own.
\nWith a little bit of effort,
\nWith a little bit of art,
\nWith a little bit of feeling,
\nYou may touch a lover’s heart.<\/p>\n
When the poem still lacks meter,
\nAnd its rhyme is less than sharp,
\nStill your dreams are getting sweeter,
\nLike an angel on the harp.
\nWith a daisy in the meadow,
\nWith a rainbow in the sky,
\nWith a skylark singing heartache,
\nYou may make your lover sigh.<\/p>\n
When the poem’s almost ready
\nFor its part in Cupid’s game,
\nIf your pulse is strong and steady,
\nYou will hope she feels the same.
\nWith each word conveying meaning,
\nWith each word a tender kiss,
\nWith each word another message,
\nTo your own intended miss.<\/p>\n
Now your poem is delivered
\nAnd you’re hoping for a chance
\nTo discover if she shivered
\nAs it led her through the dance.
\nDid she sigh on every nuance,
\nDid she die on every line,
\nDid she cry towards the ending,
\nThat you’re certain was divine?<\/p>\n
She may know that love is fleeting
\nBut a poem lasts for years,
\nAnd your words may be a greeting
\nThat is answered in her tears.
\nAnd with luck she’ll see your meaning,
\nAnd with luck she’ll know you’re true,
\nAnd with luck she’ll spend a lifetime,
\nWriting poetry to you.<\/p>\n
