\nIt’s hard to win a motor-race
\nWhile driving last year’s car,
\nAnd mine was made too many years ago.
\nI’m feeling rather out of place,
\nA has-been, fallen star;
\nWith not too many sparkles left to show.<\/p>\n
I used to hit the limiter
\nOn every decent straight,
\nBut now I take an age to get to speed.
\nFar sharper than a scimitar,
\nI always knew my fate;
\nBut now my moves can not be guaranteed.<\/p>\n
Beside the engine’s brutal roar
\nThere’s now a clank or two,
\nThe sexy note I knew has disappeared.
\nMy angry snarl is now a snore,
\nI haven’t got a clue
\nWhen I can get the partial blockage cleared.<\/p>\n
I still feel thrills when I begin,
\nI’m eager to compete,
\nWith all the younger smarter cars on show.
\nI’d love to think I can still win,
\nBut finishing’s a feat;
\nAt least I know my working parts still go.<\/p>\n
Don’t listen to the liars who
\nSay age will never count —
\nI’m past the best I didn’t quite achieve.
\nThis rhyme is all that that I can do,
\nThough it’s of no account,
\nI’m sure I’m much too old for make-believe!<\/p>\n
