\nThe purposeful filly made light of the miles
\nAnd ate up the road for the Lord of the Isles<\/p>\n
The King had decreed that the Lord must be tamed
\nAnd stripped of the crown that the upstart had claimed
\nHis allies at court sent their warnings abroad
\nThe pony and rider made straight for their lord<\/p>\n
King James was determined to rule all his lands
\nAnd curb all the chieftains with blood on their hands
\nHe sent word to Lindsay to make him a chart
\nFor Lindsay was known as the Prince of his art<\/p>\n
The purposeful filly drove on many miles
\nTo carry her rider back home to the isles<\/p>\n
A rutter was needed to safeguard each boat
\nThat kept all the armies of Scotland afloat
\nThe King would have peace and MacDonald would die
\nWhen ships knew the way to sail safely to Skye<\/p>\n
Since time had begun on the far Western Coast
\nThe Lord of the Isles had stood firm by his boast
\nThat never would Easterners darken his wall
\nBut now was the time for the chieftain to fall<\/p>\n
The purposeful filly rode on through the night
\nTo warn the MacDonald he needed to fight<\/p>\n
King James took his fleet through the worst of the rips
\nThrough the rocks and the tides that destroyed lesser ships
\nThe armies of Scotland soon stood on the sand
\nWhere once only locals had known how to land<\/p>\n
The battles were bloody but mercifully short
\nThe King and his men were too good at their sport
\nAnd Lindsay’s invention are famed to this day
\nHis charts of the coast drove the rebels away<\/p>\n
The purposeful filly still eats up the miles
\nHer ghost bearing news to the Lord of the Isles<\/p>\n
