{"id":4726,"date":"2023-11-26T20:26:25","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T20:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=4726"},"modified":"2023-11-28T22:00:01","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T22:00:01","slug":"in-praise-of-breakfast","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/i-poems\/in-praise-of-breakfast\/","title":{"rendered":"In Praise of Breakfast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> In Praise of Breakfast<br \/>\nby cricketjeff on August 25, 2010.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved<br \/>\nThe French are rightly famous for foie gras and all that cheese;<br \/>\nThe Germans for their sausages and beer.<br \/>\nThe Belgians, chips and chocolate, Spanish fish is bound to please,<br \/>\nIn Austria a cake is always near.<br \/>\nBut in Britain we have breakfast, sausage, bacon, eggs and toast;<br \/>\nAnd no other modern nation has a better meal to boast.<\/p>\n<p>Americans like burgers, and some fat-sticks they call fries,<br \/>\nAnd Egypt had the first falafel wrap.<br \/>\nThe Lebanese love couscous and the Bedouin, sheep&#8217;s eyes.<br \/>\nThe Greeks eat feta till they need a nap.<br \/>\nBut in Britain we have breakfast, and it ends in marmalade,<br \/>\nAnd it&#8217;s on such mighty mealtimes that a nation&#8217;s fame is made.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese love their noodles, in Japan it&#8217;s sushi time,<br \/>\nKoreans think that kimchi is the thing.<br \/>\nSome of what they eat in Russia is a culinary crime,<br \/>\nIn Australia a barbied shrimp is king.<br \/>\nBut in Britain we have breakfast (and at any time of day)<br \/>\nEggy bread or cold black pudding isn&#8217;t what I mean, OK?<\/p>\n<p>There are lamb chops up in Barnsley, there is shortbread from Dundee,<br \/>\nAnd the clotted cream in Cornwall is the best.<br \/>\nHave some pork with crunchy crackling, ginger biscuits with your tea,<br \/>\nAnd an Angus steak is better than the rest.<br \/>\nBut in Britain it&#8217;s the breakfast that will tempt us out of bed,<br \/>\nThere&#8217;ll be sausage, egg, and bacon, and of course there&#8217;ll be fried bread!<\/p>\n<p> Author notes<br \/>\nActually I never have fried bread, sadly it is rather too calorific &#8230;<br \/>\nAnd I&#8217;d have extra bacon rather than the egg<br \/>\n[Posts%20by%20cricketjeff%202_files\/happy.gif]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Praise of Breakfast by cricketjeff on August 25, 2010.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved The French are rightly famous for foie gras and all that cheese; The Germans for their sausages and beer.
