Food for Fools

\nAnd form and free exist within the whole.
\nThough either one may own a poet’s soul
\nThe war of words is only food for fools.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Each writer learns the way to use his tools
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 As carpenters may love a certain joint
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 But finished furniture’s the only point
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The war of words is only food for fools.
\nWe needn’t fight like kids at rival schools
\nAlthough I rhyme I marvel at the free
\nHow thoughts can sing without form’s certainty
\nThe war of words is only food for fools.

What war of words?
\nFor poets
\ntrue poets
\nit isn’t the form that counts
\nit isn’t the way the words
\njoin to build their bridge
\nit isn’t about the mechanics
\nthe cogs and wheels
\nthe minutiae
\nit’s all about thoughts
\ncarefully placed
\nto stimulate minds<\/p>\n
We need no war, no schism to divide
\nWe need to learn the lessons each can teach
\nIf you are wise you’ll keep all forms in reach
\nAvoid the trap of vulgar verbicide
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 We all see fools descending to the snide
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Attacking works that do not fit their bent
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A comment shouldn’t be\u00a0 the place to vent
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Avoid the trap of vulgar verbicide
\nThe rival camps should battle side by side
\nTo give the world the beauty of the word
\nA civil war makes both camps seem absurd

\nfree verse stanza all trying to argue it’s only poetry that counts, so I hope
