\nNow yesterday’s become a strange illusion,
\nTomorrow still a promise unfulfilled.
\nOur lives are lived surrounded by confusion,
\nToday’s the only time that must be filled.<\/p>\n
The sorrows of the past no longer harm us,
\nThere’s time enough for future hopes and fears;
\nWe cannot let their influence becalm us
\nAnd waste away these precious middle years.<\/p>\n
I’ll always love the pleasures I remember,
\nBut throw away the pain I thought I knew.
\nI’ll dream my life can have a sweet December,
\nWhile knowing that today alone is true.<\/p>\n
True happiness is knowing who you are,
\nNot waiting to outshine the brightest star.<\/p>\n

\nI am unhappy with the couplet (how often do I say and think that?) so I may
\ncome back to it.<\/p>\n
