My Advice …

\nI’m asked for advice about writing
\nBy people who think I can write
\nThey want to pen verse worth reciting
\nThat fills readers’ minds with delight<\/p>\n
But I don’t know how they can do that
\nIf I knew then I’d do it myself
\nI’m always in search of the clue that
\nMakes poetry fly off the shelf<\/p>\n
There are a few tips I can give them
\nI don’t know if they are much use
\nWrite poems as though you have lived them
\nAnd check them, don’t make some excuse<\/p>\n
No line is too good for removal
\nA great one may make the whole worse
\nBut it may win widespread approval
\nNext time you’re composing a verse<\/p>\n
Remember that poetry’s oral
\nSo read all you’ve written out loud
\nWork hard at your writings and more’ll
\nBe verses to make you feel proud<\/p>\n
