Travel to Work

\nThe buses in London are friendly and red
\nThey travel in convoys (they’re easily led)
\nThey love to eat oysters, not coins cheques or notes
\nAnd bounce up and down more than flat-bottomed boats<\/p>\n
Today my train was running fine,
\nIt whisked along the line,
\nI caught a bus,
\nWithout a fuss
\nAnd got to work by nine.<\/p>\n
The buses in London have upstairs on top
\nTheir drivers look angry when they have to stop
\nTo pick up the people who’ve queued for a ride
\nAnd mutter dark oaths about “no room inside”<\/p>\n
I read the news (the paper’s free)
\nAnd there was still a seat for me.
\n“Please mind the gap”
\nDestroyed my nap
\nSo thought of poetry<\/p>\n
The buses in London don’t care much for cars
\nOr passengers dressed up for nights out in bars
\nThey think that all roads should boast bus-lanes at least
\nAnd keep out the taxi, that impudent beast!<\/p>\n
So now I’m here with work to do
\nAnd here I’ll stay till I get through
\nThen home by train
\nImpending pain,
