The Stars Still Shine

\nWhen lights go out the World’s a darker place
\nAnd every child’s a bright and shining star.
\nA special spark illuminates the face
\nOf those we raise and hope will travel far.<\/p>\n
They give us life, and change the way we see,
\nFrom gurgling tots to hulking teenage brutes.
\nA child’s composed of living poetry,
\nThe tree of life has grown the sweetest fruits.<\/p>\n
Not every day can make you want to smile
\nBut smiles remain whatever else is lost.
\nWe only hold the brightest stars a while
\nAnd every child is worth the highest cost.<\/p>\n
Now Prosper lives as dreams in others’ hearts
\nAnd while we dream the spirit never parts.<\/p>\n

\nIt seems a lifetime ago, and yesterday, that I faced the prospect of losing a
\nson. My heart goes out to anyone who is forced to take a step further than we
\ndid.<\/p>\n
