\nRemembering the future in the promise of the past
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 When all of our tomorrows were today
\nTwo actors in rehearsals who are sure they’ve been miscast
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 But keen to see the progress of the play
\nNo life is ever easy but it’s better lived with two
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 And I have always wanted mine with you<\/p>\n
We met before the troubles of the World could touch our hearts
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And well before we knew what wouldn’t be
\nOur ignorance was blissful and we drove in fits and starts
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Towards our unimagined destiny
\nYou told me that you loved me when the bus had broken down
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I had no ring but made a paper crown<\/p>\n
And now we’re busy dying as our days turn into years
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Still looking for the spark we never lost
\nYou laugh to see me happy and I sit and cry your tears
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 When little wins demand too high a cost
\nI don’t believe it’s over while there’s lips that need a kiss
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Though not our dream the best of life is this<\/p>\n

\nI wrote these second and third stanzas this way, with a changed meter by
\nmistake,<\/p>\n
