Being Susan

\nOn an island by the ocean where the sunrise gilds the sea,
\nThere’s a mermaid whose emotions fill the the World with poetry.
\nThough she never hears a murmur from the beauty all around,
\nAll the images she writes are filled with sound.<\/p>\n
On her island by the river there are people we’ve all met,
\nIn a thoughtful verbal picture or a colourful vignette,
\nFrom her band of cunning witches to the boy who rides a bike,
\nShe’s described a home that everyone would like.<\/p>\n
On her island blessed with beaches she sees more of everyday
\nThan a thousand other writers who let moments slip away.
\nWith the man who talked to tombstones and her ancient ally Joe
\nShe’s put Hope and all Savannah’s best on show.<\/p>\n
Though I’ve never met the mermaid I have lived within her smile,
\nFelt her laughter and her heartache, been her Susan for a while.<\/p>\n
