The Soundtrack to a Dream

\nAll poets live like waters of a river,
\nBeginning small and ending in the sea.
\nFirst rushing words set readers minds a quiver
\nBefore they find the flow of poetry.<\/p>\n
As years roll by the stream grows ever wider,
\nFar deeper too, no laughing, babbling brook.
\nA gentle swell rewards the careful rider;
\nThere’s something new wherever they may look.<\/p>\n
But poets end, unlike an ancient river,
\nAnd no new words wash banks for us to see.
\nWe’ll hold the verse that always made us quiver,
\nImmortal souls live on in poetry.<\/p>\n
A mighty Nile or tiny nameless stream,
\nEach poet writes the soundtrack to a dream.<\/p>\n
