Beyond My Fingertips

\nI feel the past come closer, just beyond my finger tips.
\nThe silent breeze is whispering your name.
\nI close my eyes and taste you, feel your lips upon my lips
\nAnd burn my heart against the ice-blue flame.
\nWhy did you have to leave me with the world still unexplored?
\nPerhaps you never wanted to be treasured and adored.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Do you remember meeting? All that chit-chat was absurd,
\n\u00a0 You told me that you knew before I spoke,
\n\u00a0 But I was blind to passion and I waited for the word.
\n\u00a0 That you could never utter to a bloke.
\n\u00a0 Why could I never read you? I’d read every other book
\n\u00a0 But the story that I starred in left me dangling from your hook.<\/p>\n
I’m waiting for a letter or to hear the happy sound
\nThat says you’ve left a message on my phone
\nI can’t believe a future if your laugh is not around
\nI can’t believe you’d leave me on my own.
\nWe faced each day together and we won a thousand fights
\nAgainst the ghosts of silence who keep turning out the lights.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 I think I bought you ice-cream, though perhaps I didn’t pay,
\n\u00a0 I’ve always been a cheapskate I suppose.
\n\u00a0 You’d almost finished eating when your eyes lit up in play
\n\u00a0 And dabbed some frozen pudding on my nose.
\n\u00a0 The first time that you tricked me, but you never could be mean
\n\u00a0 I think my heart exploded when you bent to kiss me clean.<\/p>\n
The rain beats on the window, are you tapping to come in?
\nI see your face in every darkened pane.
\nThe wind shouts out your whispers and I hope we can begin
\nTo spin time round and play out life again.
\nA lonely cup of tea and then I’ll climb the stairs to bed;
\nThere I’ll close my eyes so gladly, you’re still with me in my head.<\/p>\n
