A Man I know

\nA man I know went walking after dark
\nAnd met the strangest creature in the park,
\nThe man, his name is Smeaton,
\nFound the creature hadn’t eaten,
\nSo leapt into its stomach for a lark.<\/p>\n
The creature was surprised, to say the least –
\nAnticipating quite a pleasant feast
\nBut Smeaton made him queasy,
\nThe digestion wasn’t easy,
\nEven for a strangely vicious, snarling beast.<\/p>\n
He should have been alerted by the scent,
\nFor Smeaton’s fundamentalist by bent.
\nHe holds views no beast could swallow,
\nAs he always loves to wallow,
\nIn the darkest pools of ignorant discontent.<\/p>\n
At last we know how such as Smeaton thrive,
\nAlthough they are amongst the worst alive,
\nUnpalatable bleeders
\nSeem to fools ideal leaders
\nAnd every year our standards seem to dive!<\/p>\n

\nThis was originally written to refer to a “friend of a friend’s friend”, a keen
\nTea Party follower, creationist, anti-gay, pro-lifer-unless-we-are-talking-abo
\n\u00a0 ut-unarmed-black-men-in-Florida-sub \u00a0 urbs-or-sellers-of-untaxed-cigarett \u00a0
\nes; and the line “For Smeaton’s fundamentalist by bent” was rendered “For
\nSmeaton was Republican by bent”. However I am not an American and such idiots
\nare not limited to those across the pond (although they have sported a fine
\nselection!). Nor to the right of politics.<\/p>\n
