Absent Friends

\nDalaney taught me poetry was not required to rhyme
\nAnd metaphor can be the poets friend
\nAmera greased my meter till my verse was not a crime
\nShe showed me forms that I could learn to bend
\nAnd Mairi Bheag encouraged me to see “not being bad”
\nMeant somebody may want to see what talent I still had.<\/p>\n
When Passions Promise turned the heat beyond what man can stand
\nShe opened eyes their owners thought were blind
\nSue Cardwell always had the time to lend a friend a hand
\nAnd found the flaws that I could never find
\nSo many other friends were here but now what life remains?
\nAllpoetry was once a fort against the real worlds strains<\/p>\n
I still see other people here who’ve changed my points of view
\nI still find real poetry to read
\nBut I can’t find the sparks I need to write too much that’s new
\nThe fields of golden words on which to feed
\nTo all of you I’ve known and loved please know I love you still
\nAnd if you write some brand new works I’ll read them with a will<\/p>\n
