{"id":5654,"date":"2023-11-26T20:25:28","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T20:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=5654"},"modified":"2023-11-28T23:04:46","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T23:04:46","slug":"the-last-sonnet-of-all","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/nicewaistcoat.com\/wordpress\/the-poems\/the-last-sonnet-of-all\/","title":{"rendered":"The Last Sonnet of All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> The Last Sonnet of All<br \/>\nby cricketjeff on June 12, 2018.\u00a0 \u00a9 Jeff Green, All rights reserved<br \/>\nWhen countless billion years have passed away<br \/>\nAnd stars and galaxies have slowly died;<br \/>\nWhen every lonely planet&#8217;s had its day<br \/>\nAnd there are no more questions to decide.<\/p>\n<p>Neutrinos will still whiz without a care<br \/>\nDark matter will still orbit quite unseen<br \/>\nThere&#8217;ll be no final nebulae to flare<br \/>\nAnd nothing will reveal where they have been<\/p>\n<p>Long after life has given up the ghost,<br \/>\nWith no-one left to mourn departed friends.<br \/>\nThe greatest site this universe could boast<br \/>\nWill bring about the greatest of all ends.<\/p>\n<p>When there&#8217;s no other matter to erode,<br \/>\nThen one by one the black holes will explode.<\/p>\n<p> Author notes<br \/>\nBlack holes are not quite black. As Stephen Hawking discovered they evaporate.<br \/>\nThe smaller they are the faster this happens. As a result when all other<br \/>\nmatter, dark matter and anything else has been eaten the black holes will start<br \/>\nto shrink. It will take trillions of years\u00a0 but eventually each black hole will<br \/>\nfall below a critical mass and what remains will boil away in a massive<br \/>\nexplosion of gamma rays.
