The Sonnet’s Sonnet

\nThe sonnet is the perfect form of verse –
\nWith fourteen lines of sweetly metered rhyme;
\nIambic feet, not overlong or terse,
\nIn Shakespeare’s hands it made the language chime.<\/p>\n
This English form’s my favourite every time
\nThe first eight lines set up the tale that’s told.
\nA natural flow with crisp alternate rhyme
\nEnsures the poet’s message is well sold.<\/p>\n
Then at line nine (though this can move a bit)
\nIt’s time for you to change the poem’s mood.
\nAlternate views, or arguments, could fit
\nMaybe a twist that’s artfully construed.<\/p>\n
And then the end – the couplet is the key –
\nThat can unlock the finest poetry.<\/p>\n
